According to the latest entry and exit policy of Shanghai on July 1, 2015: Foreigners who have worked continuously for more than two years in Shanghai and have no violation of laws and regulations may apply for a residence visa for five years (government authorities will apply to companies with five years of applicants). Starting from July 1, 2015, Taiwan residents who have valid permits for Taiwan residents to come and go through the mainland can enter and leave the country via open ports and stay in the mainland without having to apply for endorsements. The Exit-entry Administration of Public Security does not sign the Taiwanese compatriots' endorsements, and the port border control agencies no longer inspect the Taiwan compatriots' endorsements. Work Permit Types

Do I meet the conditions for applying for a Chinese work permit? Am I a Class A, B, or C Work Permit?

As a pilot project for the work permit system in China, Shanghai has implemented the national work permit system for foreigners from April 1, 2017. According to the new policy, the former "Foreigner's Entry Employment Permit" and "Foreign Experts' Work Permit for Work in China" are integrated into the "Work Permit for Foreigners to Come to China" and the State Foreign Experts Bureau is responsible for organizing the implementation.

The new policy will divide the work of foreigners in China into three categories. Category A (encouraged), Category B (foreign professionals, control), and Category C (foreign generals, restricted) are classified according to the classification standards for foreigners working in China. You must reach at least Category C before we can help you apply for a foreigner's work permit in China (this is a necessary document for legal work in Shanghai). Please check the following classification criteria for categories A, B, and C:

At present, the most common category A talent is a highly-paid foreigner who meets the following salary standards:

The annual wage income must reach 600,000 yuan or more, and the annual personal income tax should be more than 120,000 yuan.

If a foreigner himself or a foreigner employs a company that meets one of the following conditions, it is classified as Class A:

• A1 - Foreign talent program or honor specially introduced by governments in various parts of China

• A2 - Individual foreigners have won international professional awards

• A3 - Hiring foreign companies to meet certain standards

• A4 - Foreigners innovate in Shanghai

• A5 - Foreign Talented Persons

• A6 - Calculate point score greater than 85 points based on "Point Score Table"

Operation Precaution Items（18-6-26）

1, During the first-time application process, the report will be made according to the social average of 4 times the applicant’s base wage + relevant skills certificate, and afterwards during the follow-up business process, tax returns will need to be provided.

2, During the extension time period, if the passport number has changed, it can be reported at the same time as the extension and handled via the extension application channel. The attachments must have the new passport, the old passport and the application for passport number change will need to be provided at the same time.

3, If there is already a notice for the visa application timeframe, it will be handled through the "Work Permit Application for Foreigners Who Entered the Country" channel.

4, If it is a first-time declaration that is reported with points, a tax return for the previous year shall be provided for subsequent changes/extensions.

5, If the original employment certificate missed an annual inspection and the date of submission is 90 days before the expiration of the original employment certificate, then you must declare according to the "domestic-10" rule and provide some additional information about the situation.

6, If there are documents lost during the work permit extension and/or cancellation, before making a report you must issue a "notice of loss" to the system and upload the screenshots to the system.

7, During the first-time application, if there are commitment items, for the follow-up business you will need to submit the commitment materials at the same time.  For salary commitments, you should provide the required tax payment certificate; education certification commitment should be provided with the academic qualifications certification materials.
