Visa Policy for Foreigners – News Center
September 1, 2013 – China's new immigration control law comes into operation, resulting in many new visa types and institutional changes, we will keep our website updated. If this information is useful to you, please also recommend it to your friends, the following points are some of the changes that we have confirmed:
· New Chinese Visa categories: When you apply for a Chinese visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate abroad, you will have 16 visa types to choose from, specifically: C Visa; D Visa; F Visa; G Visa; J1 Visa; J2 Visa; L Visa; M Visa; Q1 Visa; Q2 Visa; R Visa; S1 Visa; S2 Visa; X1 Visa; X2 Visa and Z visa.
· When you go to Hong Kong to apply for a work visa (Z visa), you do not need to provide a medical report.
· The time to apply for a residence permit now is 7 working days, a 50% reduction from the previous 15 working days.
· If you apply for a family visa (S Visa or Q visa) in Shanghai, originally you only need to provide a copy of the proof of the relationship, but now you must provide a certification that has been certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate.
· Originally, for unmarried cohabitation, the spouse is eligible to handle the accompanying family visa, but at present the visa for unmarried cohabitation has not been recognized (unless they have a child together).
· All visa applications at embassies and consulates abroad must use the new visa application form.
· If your spouse is a Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan resident working in China, you can apply for a S1 family visa for 1-2 years.
· Those on internships before could use the F visa, but now the Chinese government does not support young people from abroad coming to intern in China, so there is no corresponding visa category for internship purposes, the current comparative visa is the M trade visa.
· Now if your family members are Chinese, you can apply for a Q family reunion visa for 2-3 years.
· The current tourist visa can only be extended 1 times for up to 30 days, and the visa officer will have the opportunity to ask you for proof of deposit to prove that you have sufficient financial ability to support your trip.
· If you are a foreigner and work in Shanghai, you can also invite your in-laws to stay in Shanghai for a long time. Previously, only immediate family members could be invited, for example: spouse, parents.
